And she started a blog…

18 Jun

My husband, Glen, and I intended to live in the SF Bay Area for 3-4 years and here we are 12 years later.  We arrived fresh from graduate school, a shiny new engaged couple ready to take on the working world.  In the land of startups and software we were married, bought a condo, had our daughter (L), bought a house, and had a son (H) while holding down two very full time jobs.

In the past 3 years we have weighed the pros and cons of  the life we have built-in this expensive yet beautiful city near the bay.  Does feeling the weight of a monstrous mortgage, outsourcing care for our kids more than we want to, and constantly rushing through life really worth it?  Were we willing to move farther away from family and dear friends we have grown so close to over the years?

The answer is “yes”.

Our opportunity to find a saner pace of life came with a great job opportunity for Glen in a city with affordable housing, amazing schools, and warmer weather – Austin, Texas here we come.

The house is sold, the movers secured, and a lovely rental home awaits us.  Now the difficult part, saying goodbye.  L said her goodbyes to school friends last week while it is my turn to say goodbye to coworkers at Electronic Arts this week.

This goodbye has double baggage as my next move professionally is to be determined.  My first job started days after my 15th birthday at a local bookstore and I have prided myself on having one ever since.  By design I don’t have a “9-to-5″ job lined up in Austin.  Instead my job, for now, is to shepard my family through the move and setting in process, enjoy the summer, then figure out how I can be satisfied professionally while keeping our lives manageable.

With that goal in mind, I have started this blog to share the transition to our new life as a family and my personal journey as a mom, wife, and professional.

Thanks for taking the journey with me!
